Document Summary

The most important measure of location is the mean. The means provides a measure of central location. The mean of a data set tis the average of all the data values. Arrange the list of numbers in ascending order to find the middle number. The median is the average of the two middle numbers. Whenever a data set has extreme value, the median is the preferred measure of central location. Most often reported for annual income and property value. Another measure sometimes used when extreme values are present. Obtained by deleting a percentage of the smallest and largest values from a data set and then computing the mean of the remaining value. The mode of a data set is the value that occurs with greatest frequency. Can occur at 2 or more intervals. If the data has exactly 2 modes, the data are bimodal. If the data has more than 2 modes, the data are multimodal.
