Simple columnar epithelium: inner lining of digestive tract. Cellular, polar, attached, avascular, innervated, high regeneration capacity. Consists of cells held closely together by cellular adhesions resting on a basement membrane. Avascular, receives nutrients by diffusion from underlying tissue. Diverse types; all contain cells, protein fibers, and ground substance. Composed of an abundant amount of intercellular material(ground substance &fivers) and relatively few cells. Contains cell for sensory perception absorption and secretion of nurturers and other products (selectively permeable) Glandular-production and secretion of various hormones and substances. Covers surfaces; lines insides of organs and body cavities. Ground substance- serves as a pathway for the transport and exchange of nutrients and waste products between the blood and the tissue cells. Fluid connective tissue: blood protein collagen; flexible yet strong. Elastic elastin composed of the protein elastin; capable of stretching. Single layer of thin, flat, irregularly shaped cells resembling floor tiles; the single nucleus of each cell bulges at its center.
