Document Summary

Radial symmetry - spherical or circular organisms - divide in multiple two dimensional planes - basal for animal tree. Bilateral symmetry - cephalization (head forming) - single plane of symmetry - top (dorsal) and bottom (ventral) - different functions in different parts of body. Sponges have undifferentiated tissues - all diploblastic animals have two layers (ectoderm and endoderm) Most animals have three layers of embryonic tissue - ectoderm (outer body), mesoderm (skeleton muscle), endoderm (digestive organs intestines) Tissues allow for increased specialization - allows for more functions. Protostome mouths develop before their anuses - first mouth. Deuterostome anuses develop before their mouths - second mouth. Body cavity (coelom) influences movement (look at slide for the names and stuff) Segments allow for redundancy of function and specialization. Comb jellies have many traits that are homoplasious with the more diverged animals. Highly specialized cells - mature sponge is lined with small cells called choanocytes - flagella - brings in food and oxygen.
