Colonial bentgrass, agrostis tenuis- grows in heavy contamination of soil so it"s resistant to metals; but plants in uncontaminated soil are not resistant; thus metals in uncontaminated soils with resistance are a lower average. Elephant seals- sexual selection, 90% die have massive sizes and roaring sounds to. Australian riflebirds- sexual dimorphism; males have mating dance to win over females. Peafowl- handicap principle; if males have huge set of tail feathers, they look like good genes but actually hinder their survival. Morphological species concept- individuals of a single species share measurable traits. Biological species concept- species are groups of potentially interbreeding populations, which are reproductively isolated from one another. Non-species- don"t mate or produce fertile offspring. Postzygotic = after zygote forms, prevents proper functioning of zygote. Geographical = physical barrier separates species, like a river or mountains. Ecological = no true barrier, but species are in separate habitats and rarely encounter each other.
