Superiority v. equality (defensive) messages which imply superiority or are patronizing will typically elicit a defensive response (supportive) messages which imply equality are more useful in creating a positive climate. Organizations have a wealth of formally defined policies that govern specific processes within the organization. Organization charts stipulate which members have higher or lower status, which departments or individuals have responsibility for a particular operation, and who reports to whom in the larger framework of the organization: charts, workplace rules, organizational policies. As ways of thinking, acting, and viewing work that are shared by members of an organization and reflect an organizations distinct identity. Relatively enduring characteristics of an organization that describe the working environment, particularly with respect to communication. Decisions reached collectively by the group ultimately should be enhanced when compared to the individual decision making process.
