Boys tend to be 2 years behind girls. Primary sex characteristics are necessary for reproduction: ova and sperm. Secondary sexual characteristics in girls: physical body changes - public hair, breast buds can precede 2 years before menarche. Boys still have growth up until 21. Increase in muscles size and strength by tanner iv in males. Pituitary > signals adrenal gland > produces androgen and hypothalamus. The present of body hair, has nothing to do with reproduction. The male start to grow facial hair (beard) Some kids will start showing signs of secondary growth but yet going to puberty. Males: spermarche (development of sperm), enlargement of sexual organs. Deep voice and beard are at the end of puberty. Viable sperm in a few months and adult sperm at tanner 5. Tanner iii enlargement of testicles, enlargement of penis, downy public hair at base of penis. Tanner iv adult size genitals, coarse public hair around base of penis.
