He noticed the people felt that that they were doing stopped the world from ending. He did run into ethics issues b/c they joined the group directly which reinsured their beliefs. They couldn"t take notes, thy had to remember everything. ex. Rosenberg"s research assistants (all healthy) went into insane asylums. Had the same back stories, all got in but it was hard for them to get out.
