Insurance may not cover all of these costs for alternative care. Use of tx that are not commonly practiced by the medical profession. Older research claimed people who use some form of alt medicine tend to have middle or working-class social background. Those who use faith and folk healers typically come from a lower-class background and use these practitioners bc they are inexpensive and culturally similar. Conventional medicine for some pts has failed to provide any relief. Physical manifestations related to acute stress common. Distrust of conventional medicine for other reasons. May be less expensive and less invasive. Can often be more expensive bc insurance will not cover it. Trying to treat the whole body or root causes. E. g. massage therapy and diet modification to reduce migraines.
