It takes neptune 164. 8 years to orbit the sun. On july 11, 2011, neptune completed its first orbit of the sun since its discovery in 1846. Neptune was discovered by jean joseph verrier. The planet could not be seen by the ancients because it is not visible to the naked eye. Verrier discovered it in 1846 using a telescope. But people protested that it wasn"t keeping with the tradition of using roman names so neptune was chosen instead. Neptune comes from the roman god of the sea. Neptune has the second highest gravity in the solar system. Triton, the largest moon of neptune was discovered only 17 days after neptune was discovered. By the same guy who discovered neptune, joseph verrier! Neptune has a storm just like jupiter. Called the great dark spot, it is the size of earth. There is also a second, smaller storm. This storm is only the size of the moon.
