BSCI 207 Lecture 15: Lecture 15
Document Summary
Increasing all number: proliferation: creating shape: movement/ differential expansion, all type specification- differentiation, signaling between cells. In larval and adult animals, proliferation requires feeding and or recycling. Programmed cell death: apoptosis- individual cell dies, and are engulfed by neighbors, cells die by stereotyped sequence of events, autotrophy- can remove entire tissues. Intercalation: migration, differential expansion, gastrulation- takes on layer of tissue and produces ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Specification: cells gradually lose potential, coincides with expression of distinct sets of genes, remain partially undifferentiated stem cells, molecular differentiation- precedes overt differentiation, early stages can be seen with special techniques localizing mrna and protein.
