Document Summary
Ciproloxacin is a louroquinolonoe anibioic targeing bacterial topoisomerase enzymes. It is acive against gram-negaive and gram posiive pathogens. Pepidoglycan layer- basic building block is nam and nag monomers- they each have a pepide tail with amino acids- these building blocks have to be ligated together through crosslinks of pepide tails. Elongaion and crosslinking of pepidoglycan chains requires the acivity of trans- glycosylase (tg) and trans-pepidase (tp) enzymes, respecively. This is an example of a bifuncional tgase/tpase, which are also the key killing targets for beta-lactam anibioics. Enzyme with tpase and tgase aciviies allow for formaion- key for killing targets. Enzymes make this process happen, don"t occur spontaneously. Cell wall synthesis inhibiion can be robustly achieved by inhibiing speciic enzymes or by physically prevening enzyme acivity. These anibioics are potent and widely used, with increasing resistance a very signiicant concern. The funcional porion of beta-lactam drugs is the beta-lactam ring.
