Privacy as ownership vs. privacy as right: what is the role of privacy in a democracy. The idea that we have data communications that we want some of our friends to see but not others. Able to successfully integrate advertising that better fits their audience: unique insight on users daily social behavior. What total anonymity achieves: demonstrate tor, darknet markets. Every time a transaction happens they verify it and it"s added to the public ledger. Prevents scams and fraudulent transactions from occurring. Tor: basically firefox but it hides your ip address and a lot of info: idea of onion is layers and layers of encryption. Things that can e done with information at a large scale that cannot be done at a small one: no sampling, like polling data. Moore"s law: says a lot about correlation, not causation. The ideal of identifying causal mechanisms is a self- congratulatory illusion; big data overturns this . Benefits: a few examples: public health.
