People who believe in the importance of complying with the law are less likely to violate the law. People who have experienced or live in areas of high residential mobility. Strongly attached to their schools are less likely to commit crime. Friends with criminals are more likely to engage in crime. Definitions of criminology: study of crimes and criminals process of making laws, breaking laws, and the reaction of breaking laws. Crime is a social phenomenon and is socially constructed. It"s very black and white, either you are a criminal or you are not. What is crime? any action that: o o violates criminal law (narrow) violates societal rules to the point of harming citizens or society (broad) What percentage of people? old people and women are often most afraid, least likely to be victimized. Young people, most likely men are more likely to be victims of crime. 40% of americans fear a specific type of crime.
