Document Summary
Social defense (rationale for punishment): we can"t fix criminals, we need to incapacitate them and exterminate them. We can refute their theory with data as well. Compared 3,000 convicts to a control group of non-criminals. Compared all the physical features, did not find much different. Eugenics- movement to control genetic composition of a population. See if the twins engage in the same sort of behavior. If both or neither engage in delinquency there is concordance. If one does and not the other, no concordance. Similar environments, their life experience may be similar because they look alike vs. fraternal. Flynn effect: average iq over the last century improved (environment matters) Gene pool hasn"t changed, but environment has (media exposure, medical advances, etc. ) Neurotransmitters (ex. low serotonin may suggest lower impulse control) Hormones (ex. high testosterone linked to higher aggression) Low level of arousal, need riskier things to feel thrill (ex. not sweating or no elevated heart rate)
