When is a device developed enough to be used in med field. 70+ yrs after discovery of x-ray, ct scanner made. Godfrey hounsfield created w. help from cormack. 1st gen ct: pencil beam, step & shoot; rotate & repeat. Today: a single scan can come up w/ up to 1000 images. Inside of ct scanner spins really really fast but person cant tell, has to be stable so image is clear. Photon counting ct 2016 (not yet on the market) Lots of ways to image using em spectrum. How to decide what method to use for a particular patient. New image and data display strategies: vr and augmented reality (ar) Computer aided diagnosis (cad) and ai to reverse engineer brain and for health informatics. Cad for breast cancer in mammograms approved 1998. 2008 radiologists used cad in 74% of screening mammograms. Screening tests low number of cancerous results. Doctors/screeners aren"t seeing negative results a lot so computers catch it better.
