Halley"s comet comes around every 76 years, the last time was in 1986, and before that 1910, the next time is in 2061. Stanley kunitz was born in 1910, so he was 5 years old when the comet came around. First time it was noticed was 240 bc. 1066 it occured, afterwards british poetry began to rhyme (after the norman conquest) Comet was a big deal in the norman conquest. Most of the lines seem enjambed, but actually very few are. Don"t need punctuation to signal an end-stop, as long as it makes sense stand- alone. Begins in the classroom, reporting what teacher says. Not eating, sent to room, sneaks out to go see the comet. What the story is really about (the metaphor) Even though kids are innocent, they still can imagine bigger things. Ironic that it is described as there will be no more school tomorrow when there actually will be nothing tomorrow.
