KNES 211 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Exercise Intensity, Interval Training, Stroke Volume
Document Summary
Stroke volume: the amount of blood pumped per beat. With regular exercise, the amount of respiratory dead space decreases at high breathing frequencies. Steady state: the intensity of exercise where the energy and physiological demands of the exercise bout are met by the delivery of the physiological systems in the body. Interval training: a few repetitions of higher intensity exercise followed by recovery periods. Warm up phase: a period of lighter exercise preceding the conditioning phase. Conditioning phase: frequency, duration, intensity, modality, the clients current fitness, conclude phase with more steady-state exercise. Cool down phase: prevents the tendency for blood to pool in the extremities, active cool down helps remove metabolic waste from the muscles to be metabolized by other tissues. Adults 18-64: perform 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity, bouts must last at least 10 minutes, participate in strength training activities.
