Pre-adapted development: postural control and walking independently i and ii. Voluntary movements start to appear during pre-adapted period. 2 wks post birth to 1 yr. Ends with attainment of feeding themselves and independent walking require little specific enviro support: visuo-motor coordination, postural control and locomotion. How to move about in the environment (locomotion) How to act with and on objects in the environment (manipulation) Posture follows movement like a shadow- sherrington 1906 in everything we do, from sitting in a chair to our most athletic performances, posture makes it happen. Imaginary point inside or outside body point that you balance around. Sometimes the center of mass is outside the base of support. Ideal is when the center of mass is inside the base of support- then you have good support. Base of support: babies longest, as development progresses, the base of support decreases in length.
