These histories, however, are not objective representations of the past, but are highly subjective and (de)politicized. These presentations often forget problematic histories, depict social injustices as belong to the past and overlook continuing patterns of institutionalized inequality. Selective and depoliticized representations: representations of the past frequently replace the oppositional, strident, or transgressive politics of individuals and events with a gauzy nostalgia that obscures the conflicts of which they were. He is jackie the martyr- but forget the man of an activist: they do a great injustice to history.
