I chose to profile a coconut palm tree for this assignment because the tree represents travel and adventure to me. When i think of a vacation or a tropical destination i always think of palm trees. People climbing them, swinging from the trunk and sipping coconut milk right out of the nut. Their iconic fruit- the coconut is very trendy right now, in addition to the tree"s uses in the landscape architecture world, using the tree"s milk is a huge a health fad. I love the tree"s long fan like leaves as well as the aesthetic of the radial pattern the branches make. Palm leaves are also a common fashion statement to make right now, many designers are picking up the leaves as a statement in clothing. Hibiscus, short grasses, not much because it is on the beach. Sandy beaches, intolerant of brackish soil, can grow on lots of soil types if well drained.
