Black music, in a very poliical sense. What they inspired (massively inluenial in hip hop) Papa"s got a brand new bag : rif. They basically act as extensions of the drum. Everything here is rhythm more than melody. Signals a shit to a closer alliance between funk and black power. All of the hallmarks of brown"s earlier sound. More of a pride of being black. African american music that doesn"t get stolen by whites. Sly stone was the leader of a diverse group. Lyrics of tolerance: diferent strokes for diferent folks : music of inclusiveness, meant to say this is about everyone, comes out of san francisco. Ex: thank you (faleinme be mice elf again) - 1969: innovaion in both style. Has layers built on top of one another. Funk manifesto: free your mind, and your ass will follow. Big sound, layers of rifs, heavy bass, verbal motoes ( we want the funk )
