Record spinners from disco: plays more than one song or just goes from one song smoothly into the next. Rap begins in nyc in the late 70s with djs. Dj-ing is the basis of hip hop. Dj kool herc: first true turntablist- leads the way, brought the jamaican sound system and idea of toasting to rap, use two turntables to create mixes, emphasizes the break.
