The stage in piaget"s stage theory n which children can think about hypothetical and abstract concepts. Marshmallow test: one marshmallow will be given to the child now, but if they wait, they will be give two marshmallows- half kids wait and half of them don"t. Those who were able to wait had better self esteem, better social skills, less likely to get in trouble with the law, and better grades in the future. Learning the skill at 4 years old can then have better self control when they are older- able to delay the gratification when older. Can run the test differently if need be. Attachment figure- someone who provides an emotional need. Test of attachment that predicts how child is going to be in relationships when older: can tell how you act. Safe haven- go here in times of fear- need a safe haven when they are scared- not a biological need-
