Rewards & punishments people can be rewarded for their violent behavior. Sports teams like for hockey and football can have incentives to behave more aggressively like more money for hitting harder in football. Gang initiation is similar, being more violent shows you can be in the gang and gas can make a lot of money. Bobo doll study children are much more likely to treat their dolls aggressively when the parental model dealt with their doll aggressively. This aggressive copying actually goes up when the experimenter praised or rewarded the aggressive model. Punishments backfire even though it"s one of the most common ways to attempt to curb aggression in children it doesn"t work. It creates more anger and counter aggression which leads to retaliation even if the person knows there will be negative consequences. Innate aggression has been a topic of conversation among psychologists since freud who proposed an aggressive instinct. Freud"s aggression instinct no data to support his theory.
