Document Summary

Balance between aspects of everyday life, nutrition, mental & physical health (lifestyle), energy, social health (keeping good company), motivation to maintain and keep health lifestyle. Idea that you are feeling good, can be broken down into positive affect, negative affect, and life satisfaction. Urge to have a lot of pleasurable feelings, maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. These three philosophical perspectives play role in happiness and thriving. Ex: matrix movie clip, machine that gives you pleasures. Journey is more important than the end goal. Eudaimonia consistently plays more important role than hedonism. Pleasure is an essential piece, but not the whole, maybe not even the most. If you look at how people have fared overtime, objective goods have increased. Trends that suggest we are less happy is called progress paradox. Hedonism is not strongly predictive of well-being, you need more. Happiness cannot be given to you, it comes from self-directed action and progress.
