We all have social circles/social networks which overlap and produce society. We have certain amounts of freedom in choosing the members of our networks. Expectations/obligations associated with these networks can conflict. Groups and individuals can vary in their closeness to each other. Personal feelings/evaluations of social distance can be measured in individuals.
