Document Summary
What we understand by sickness and how it tends to manifest is socially constructed. We know someone is paying but we don"t know/see how much. Need to bring down health care costs. People who are sick have hard time engaging in economy. Chronically sick find it hard to be educated. Identity-meaning: illness becomes a part of who they are-define themselves with cancer/cancer survivor, mental illness-define themselves by that illness; sometimes even forced. Lots of education=automatically respect them because we respect hard work and hard work and education are seen as absolute good. Moral aspect to being a doctor that isn"t present in other occupations-healing people is an ethical good-saving lives and helping people heal. Automatically have a certain ethical and moral standing. Just because they have a lot of power over you-being healthy is. If they say something is wrong we generally assume they are right even if they aren"t always.
