Francois vase (textbook 120: was shattered and then reassembled, black figure. Painting on pigment and details achieved from scraping away: 6 registers with over 200 labeled figures, twisted perspective, limiting patternization and putting on extremities as seen in orientalizing period can be seen here again. Dionysos and two satyrs: geometric forms on shoulder, registers, muscular definition, dancing poses and holding wine cup and grapes on neck of vase. Dionysus in a boat: sail looks very realistic in the wind, dolphins loo same to dolphin freeze (minoans) Death of sarpedon (textbook 122: now instead of dark figures with black figure technique, figures achieved by painting around them so figures are natural color of vessel of the clay. Archaic smile to let you know person is alive: wearing garments = not athlete, but maybe a priest or something, x like formartion. Rampin head: archaic smile, stylized facial features meant to be viewed at an angle (representing motion)
