Abbey church of st. denis: was re built by suger, circular rose window is very typical gothic (symbol for virgin mary, slide 5 shows apse, slide 6 shows ribbed vaulting w/ pointed arches. We can see glass in between piers. Chartres cathedral: height of towers not the same due to a fire during construction, huge rose window, buttresses on west fa ade to help with weight but developed flying buttresses. Diagonal and transverse ribs to help support weight of all this glass. Windows on claristory: slide 12 shows huge rose window, slide 14 tympanum. Trending towards more naturalism (also see wet drapery: slide 15 door jambs are showing more naturalism w/ realistic head sizes. Very elongated to show they are spiritual.
