Dipylon vase: neck has geometric shape design (decorative patternization, storytelling revived, registered, schematic handling of human figures, grave marker, meander motif. On neck and foot: difficulty rendering perspective, compare to minoans (dolphin freeze and toreador narrative) Horses has pinched waists in geometric period (schematic) (slide 6) Herakles and centaur: he is larger than enemy, fighting a centaur, bronze, not hollow, he is nude. Orientalizing (700-600 bce: inspired by exchanges with near east (assyrians and egyptians) Black figure technique paints on forms using dark pigment and details are scraped away. Corinthian black-figure amphora: triangles at bottom like budding flower like the vase is springing from that. 1: registers, compare to object for visual paper with same triangles, dark at top and bottom help to frame the image, area filled in with secondary pictures (dolphin freeze (minoans))
