Document Summary

Humans have been on earth in less than a second (according to clock on her page) Recently, viruses implicated in evolution of eukaryote genome. Much about lifes origin: fossils, tom jefferson got into fossil hunting, relative dating. Index fossils: strata at different locations can be matched by presence of similar organisms. Radiometric: use of isotopes, how long rock has been decaying. Half life: how long it takes for half of nuclei to decay in stable form: used for really old (rubidium, strontium, known recent vs. old in terms of which is used to find the age. Bog people: found in europe, cutting bogs to get peat, found body preserved in bog because of acidity. Isomers of amino acids can be used to date fossils (l-d), useful in stable climates. Biogeography: pangea, continental drift, subduction, sea floor spreading, not a whole lot of life in the middle of the ocean, continental drift creates allopatric speciation.
