BIL 150 Lecture Notes - Lecture 32: Thymus, Epitope, Apoptosis
81 views1 pages
Document Summary
Bil 150 day 32: t cells bind to antigen fragments displayed or presented on a host cell, these antigen fragments are bound to cell surface proteins called major histocompatibility complex mhc molecules. In infected cells mhc molecules bind and transport antigen fragments to the cell surface a process called antigen presentation. B and t cell development: adaptive immune system has 4 major characteristics: Immense diversity of lymphocytes and receptors: self-tolerance: the lack of reactivity against an animal"s own cells and molecules, b and t cell proliferate after activation. Generation of b and t cells: the immune system assembles millions of different antigen receptors from a small number of parts. Immunoglobulin (ig) gene encodes the light chain of the b cell receptor. In the body there are few lymphocytes with antigen receptors for any particular epitope.
