Aka getting the green light to make a picture. The producer"s fee vests once they get the green light: same as pay or play so they owe them the money no matter what. Theories: make the studio pregnant getting the studio to make many cash commitments before they make the movie, risk averse they want to spend as little money as possible because indies are risky. Getting a commitment involves an offer of pay or play to the actor, producer, etc: unless it goes through an agency. Studios wont accept unsolicited screenplays unless they come from an attorney or talent agency. When stars get big, them and their agents turn to the big agencies. Heat and ice: hot you"ve been part of a big picture (written, directed or starred in it) Studios will get anyone who is hot : cold immediate failure will produce ice . Studios view you as unsellable : many actors have moments of heat and ice.
