No: it is possible to have a group of people with different cultures and there, equiano attempts to decouple race and slavery. does need to be enslavement there. Slavery functions very differently in african versus the new world: the european theory of enslavement states that they are not creating slaves. Why does he run away: knew he could not make it back to where he came from. He would have to run hundreds of miles. He decides that if he plays his cards right, he"d still be a slave but he could be a house slave where he is not beaten, etc. Religion: believes in fate, he might see this as god"s will, but it could also be in order to conform to his audience, could be a way to deal with trauma. His own ability to understand what is happening to him might be limited considering he is a small child: attempt to appeal to his audience.
