On august 9, 2000, a recall of 6. 5 million tires was released by firestone and ford. 3. 8 million p235/75r15 radial atx and atxii tires and 2. 7 million wilderness at tires, both manufactured at the illinois plant in firestone, were included in the recall. Firestone made up the state"s official recall, prioritizing arizona, california, florida, and texas, where the highest number of casualties occurred. Florida and texas each accounted for 22% of the grievances, based on nhtsa results, followed by california with 20% and arizona with 5%. It was expected that this first phase of the recall would be finished by october 2000. The second process was supposed to be completed by the end of 2000, including alabama, georgia, Firestone announced that the recall would be completed by the end of 2001 in all the remaining states.
