PSY 250 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Mcgurk Effect, Forgetting Curve, Vocal Tract
Document Summary
Studied humans with severed corpus callosum (patient w. j. ) flashed stimuli such as letters and light bursts to the left and right visual fields. When the stimuli were flashed to the left visual field, and thus the right hemisphere, he would press the button, but could not verbally report having seen anything. When they modified the experiment to have him point to the stimulus that was presented to his left visual field and not have to verbally identify it, he was able to perform this task accurately. Results: respond equally quickly to global letters, respond slowly to local letters, people with simultagnosia respond only to local letters. Feature analysis- the sensory system breaks down the incoming stimuli into its features and processes the information. Discriminate between letters: common features, uncommon features. Results: subjects took longer to discriminate between letters with features in common. Biederman, et. al. (1990"s) recognition by components theory.
