Churches: religious bodies that coexist in a relatively low state of tension with their social surroundings: they have mainstream, safe beliefs and practices relative to those of the general population, no need to maintain distance with general population. Sect/cult cycle: people dissatisfied with the church leaders (corruption, lose their principles) so they branch off and make a sect, if successful it becomes a church.
