Netherlands first country to legalize in 2001 (usa in 2015: marriage = group"s approved mating arrangements, usually marked by a ritual of some sort to indicate new public status. Common cultural themes running through family and marriage. Incest taboo = cannot have relations with family so must go outside of group to find mate (= exogamy) Finding a mate: influence of 7 agents of socialization: descent. Feel related to father or mother or both sides: inheritance. Property to males, females or both: authority.
