Had similar body size to humans, made fairly efficient tools/symmetrical/sharp. Carnivores require large territories, live at low pop. density, and prey mover seasonally. So homo erectus needed to go to these areas to hunt. Began to leave bc competition with other predators for food to hunt. Began to migrate to eurasia around 1. 8-0. 78 mya. Didn"t need boats to get there, they could move through walking. Later homo: 2nd migration 100,000 years ago- That"s when they began to migrate into the western hemisphere. Modern humans cognitively more complex than neanderthals (tools, cave art) Changing climate coupled with the above led to neanderthal extinction. Drawings painted genuine pictures of animals and more, very detailed. In eurasia, early humans were surrounded by wolves. Among most widespread mammal (humans, lions, wolves) Wolves had to be cooperative hunters to bring down large prey in ice age. Wolves, unlike many other carnivores, did not become extinct. Partnership of mutual benefit-each brought skills to the table.
