Ovid"s metamorphoses is similar to genesis, human created from earth, sky, rain and fashioned into the likeness of the gods. Eventually transformed into spirits that watch over mortals. People were children until they turned 100. When they disappeared, cronus ruled over them. He is the one that stole fire to give to the mortals. Gave humans meat and some fat, and zeus all fat and bones. First woman created (name means gift to all) She"s given a pot which becomes pandora"s box. Rejects apollo and poseidon and vows chastity. Giver of many blessings--lasts a long time. Supreme among the gods, but not omnipotent (swayable and can fall victim to other powers) He upholds justice but is not bound by it. The epitome of the multi faces, infinitely varied and wondrously complex nature of mythology . God of the sky, hurls thunder and lightning. The oak and the eagle are his symbols.
