GEOG 170A1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Uniformitarianism, Geologic Time Scale
Document Summary
Fossils are remains of once-living organisms and provide evidence. Charles darwin (1859): proposed theory of organic evolution. Organic evolution: all living things related by descent with modification from past organisms, natural selection is a mechanism and resulted in differential survival to reproductive age of organisms. Immensity of geologic time is central to understanding the evolution of earth and its life. Geologic time scale is the calendar that geologists use to date past events. States that laws of nature are remained unchanged overtime snd that the processes observed today also operated in the past.
