However, defendant"s superintendent, who agreed to the fishermen"s promises, informed the fishermen that he had no authority to enter into the contracts or alter the original contracts made by the fishermen. Upon return from alaska, the fishermen attempted to collect on the increased contracts. Defendant would not award the increased pay.
