Math patterns: consist of numbers, shapes, words and pictures. Both math sequences and math patterns can be expressed algebraically. Houses task- simple frieze pattern infinite strip with a repeating pattern. Sides are 1 unit long the patter is copied and translating (sliding) one unit to the right. Work: there are 2 sides for each roof if you have 86 houses multiply 86 x 2 = 172 roof sides. There is one bottom edge per house so 86 x 1 = 86 bottom edges. Then you have two sides edges for the end houses so add two to your total. 172 roof sides + 86 bottom edges + 2 end sides = Equation: h x 2 rooftops + h x 1 bottom + 2 sides = h (h = the number of houses) Talks about the nth position and how to find an equation to determine/predict the next answer which would be the nth position.
