Von willebrand"s disease is a very common blood disorder that affect about 1% of the world"s population. Dr. erik von willebrand, a finnish physician, was the first to diagnose an inherited bleeding disorder. His studies began by testing a family living in f gl in the aland archipelago in the baltic sea. It turned out that this family not only suffered from abnormal internal bleeding, but also a reduced level of antihemophilic factors, meaning that they indeed had a bleeding disorder. This disease is more noticeable in women, since many doctors regularly screen women with menorrhagia for von willebrand"s, as heavy menstrual bleeding is the most common symptom of the disorder in females. b. ) Other symptoms include: bruising easily d. ) many genetic diseases are the result of a protein not doing its job or doing its job incorrectly.
