How unjust an arrangement is depends on how excessive the higher expectations are and to what extent they depend upon the violation of the other principles of justice. The difference principle is compatible with the principle of efficiency. Within the region of positive contributions any movement toward the perfectly just arrangement both increases the average well0being and improves everyone"s expectations. Difference principle can be easily accommodated to the general conception of justice. General conception of justice as fairness requires that all primary social goods be distributed equally unless an unequal distribution would be to everyone"s advantage.
