PSY 150A1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Twin, Heredity, Heritability
Document Summary
Intelligence tests may have a cultural bias. Intelligence tests do not show overall gender di erences in cogni(cid:2210)ve abili(cid:2210)es. Iq scores of iden(cid:2210)cal twins are more alike than for any other pairs. Moderate correla(cid:2210)ons exist between fraternal twins, siblings and parents, and their children. Weak correla(cid:2210)ons between children and their foster parents and between cousins. Correla(cid:2210)on in intelligence for iden(cid:2210)cal twins is higher than fraternal twins. Iq scores of iden(cid:2210)cal twins reared together have higher correla(cid:2210)on than iden(cid:2210)cal twins reared apart. Being reared together is related to iq similari(cid:2210)es. Strong rela(cid:2210)onship between iq scores of adopted children and their biological parents than between children and adop(cid:2210)ve parents. About half the di erence between one"s iq score and the iq scores of other people can be explained by heredity. Intelligence is a mix of both nature & nurture. Organiza(cid:2210)on and safety in the home have been linked to higher iqs and achievement test scores.
