Document Summary

Progressive era lesson 3: women in the progressive era week 4. Played very vital role in progressive era. Lives of middle class women are changing. Some going to college before getting married now at this time. Able to send to boarding school, or hire nannies. This is the sphere that men belonged to. Basically everything that goes on outside of the home. Women were expected to be in this sphere. Take care of the home, laundry, cleaning, raising children. It is during the progressive era that women begin to push out of the private sphere. Women argue that their nurturing and motherly attributes would do society some good. If women were out in society maybe men would behave better. Who better to take care of the poor for example. A lot of women start to work here or start these. Wealthy woman, had gone to college, did not marry. Helped the poor and created a settlement home.
