Document Summary

Lecture 4 notes: (chapter 3 and 4 textbook notes accompanies lecture) Zoysiagrass and bermudagrass 2 major used in ar. Bermudagrass (cynodon dactylon) is good for every turf situation, home lawns, gold greens, fairways, tees, roughs, sports turf, and roadside, low maintenance sites. Over seeded with a cool season grass to provide winter play. Bermudagrass has poor shade tolerance and gets winterkill in zone 6 or less. Does not settle uniformity after frost and susceptible to frost damage. Used for home lawns ad golf fairways and tees but weak as sports turf. Propagated by seed, sprigs, or sod and spreads by stolon and rhizome. Centipede (eremochloa ophiruroides) used in lawns and good shade tolerance, called poor man"s grass", propagated by seed, sprigs or sod. St. augustine (stenotaphrum secundatum) mostly used in lawns, excellent drought tolerance but not cold tolerant. Shade tolerance (better than centipede) and propagated by seed, sprigs, or sod.
