PHIL 2003 Lecture 14: Philosophy 10/05
Document Summary
Betting man"s wager on the existence of god. Famous evidentialist: only justified to believe what you have evidence to believe, immoral to believe things you can"t prove, a sin to mankind. Only way to be able to rationally believe in god is to come up with more evidence to prove it. How do you show something is justified: the only answer for him are bits of evidence we have access to. God has better proof that he exists than we have access to. The reasons of finding god to exist cannot be found to be true until you take that step of faith: not rational, there is no evidence. There is no evidence to moral beliefs. Can"t just suspend your belief: have to decide if murder is wrong, forced option. No rational grounds because there is no evidence. Must go by faith before you find any evidence.
