Document Summary

I taught my black kids that their elite upbringing would protect them from. I was wrong. (graham: two african american parents who grew up in a racially hostile environment went on to get ivy league educations and adapt to the culture of high class white society. They enlisted a group of rules for their children to follow to ensure they would never be uncomfortable or profiled for their race. They sent them to private boarding schools, made them where nice clothes, and teach them perfect dialect free of slang. Even though they did everything they could one day one of their children was called a racially explicit name. The author though he had the perfect method of raising a black child in a majority white community and was able to protect him from the things he experienced as a child/teenager into adulthood.
